I was about three minutes late on this shot. I was headed south on 75, just about to my exit when I saw a big fog bank envelope the city. I missed a light and got stuck behind one of those moving trucks that doesn’t know where it’s going but refuses to pull over. You still get the idea. Or not.
I’m officially on election year shutdown. I’ve reached capacity. I am super-saturated. It’s all just a little much. The lying, the glad-handing, the blaming, the hate, the hate, the hate and then the lying again. While both candidates spend some country’s GDP worth on the remaining 2-3% of Americans that haven’t decided, I’ve been thinking. SPOILER ALERT… I’m going to show my political hand.
I still believe Barack Obama is one of the more genuine political figures I’ve seen in my lifetime. I realize this is subjective and I also realize that Arleigh, even at the young age of 17 months, may want to genuinely help this country but that doesn’t make her the best candidate for president. But luckily, I think Obama is genuine and completely capable of doing great things. But I won’t sit here and recount the reasons why. That’s not why I’m posting.
The reason is because of some lingering disappointment I have concerning my candidate. Because I put him on such a pedestal, I thought this year might be different. I thought that he might rise to the occasion and be the daring leader I think he can be. I wish that on the final day of the DNC, he would stand up, give a rousing speech and then announce to the world that from this minute on, he’s going to stop. He’s done. He’s finished participating in a campaign arena that supports fraudulent mud-slinging and hate. He’s tired of the wasted time. He sees that this country needs to get more done than changing the name of post offices. He feels that it is time to get back to work. He’ll ask representatives and senators alike to join him. He will step off the podium and head back to Washington, get a good night’s sleep and the next day, he will start solving problems and passing legislation.
Imagine the example this would set? You want to talk about doing something that would sway those remaining percentage points… there it is. A statement unlike any other. “Go on with your vague. unsubstantiated and downright false claims, Mitt. Not all the fact checkers in the world could keep up with you. By the way, I’m going back to work.” What would the Omney/Ryan camp say? What could they say?
We were doing a walk-through at the convention center for some signage and walked out of the 5th Street doors on our way to the car. My boss pointed this piece out along the side of a bar… or something of the like. A clever medium, no? And I would imagine a little difficult to work with. The midtones in the face come from chipping only half the plaster away. I would put up a wall just some this individual could do something with it.
